The best and worst GP surgeries in County Durham – as rated by patients

THE best and worst GP surgeries in County Durham have been revealed, based on how patients felt using them.

99 percent of patients at Leadgate Surgery, which is based on Watling Street, said the overall experience was good – taking it to number one.

Each year, the NHS asks patients for their views of their registered practices and publishes the results.

It includes a range of criteria including ease of making an appointment, their practice’s website, the helpfulness of receptionists and whether needs were met.

68 percent of patients at Leadgate Surgery said their experience was very good, with another 31 percent saying it was fairly good.

In second place was Annfield Plain Surgery, based on Durham Road, with 97 percent of patients saying their overall experience was good.

On the other end of the scale, the lowest performing practice saw just 56 percent of patients saying their overall experience was good.

The William Brown Centre on Manor Way, in Peterlee, saw 22 percent of patients say their experience was neither good or poor, 12 percent said fairly poor and 10 percent said very poor.

The results are part of the GP Patient Survey, an independent survey run by Ipsos MORI on behalf of NHS England.

It is the largest survey of its kind as is used by the NHS as a key source of insight.

This week, The Northern Echo is publishing the results of this survey across the North-East and North Yorkshire.
