Durham Opticians Warn Locals To Be Vigilant About Eye Health Post-Lock-down

Durham opticians are warning locals not to neglect their eye health now we are out of lockdown.

Specsavers revealed a third of people in the UK noticed a deterioration in their eyesight during lockdown according to a survey of its customers.

Andrew Clark, director of the Durham store on North Road is encouraging those who missed out on routine eye tests during this period to get in touch.

He said: “During lockdown opticians across Durham and beyond were open for urgent and essential care only – meaning those most in need could access vital eye care services.

“This meant routine eye examinations were on hold – but now lockdown measures have been eased, we are pleased to be able to offer them again and are getting customers booked in as quickly as we can accommodate them.

“If you are due a routine appointment or indeed you have any concerns about your eye health, don’t delay in getting in touch. Audiology services are also back up and running so the same applies to customers in need of routine hearing tests.”

Customers must book appointments in advance, enabling the store to manage social distancing, and a range of new hygiene and personal protection measures are in place.

These include restrictions on the number of customers allowed in store, strict social distancing, card payments instead of cash where possible and use of personal protective equipment (PPE) in line with NHS guidance. All testing equipment and frames are thoroughly sanitised after each use.
