Durham County Council to Represent the UK to Climate Change Conference
REBUS conference 2019

A North East council will represent the UK at an international conference on climate change.

Durham County Council’s climate change team will play a part in the upcoming virtual conference for the Renovation for Energy Efficient Buildings Scheme (REBUS), on Tuesday 10 November.

The REBUS project, which began in 2016 and is funded by Interreg Europe, invited partners from eight European countries to focus on achieving important energy efficiency savings in public buildings.

The conference marks the end of the project and partners will share how they have cooperated to reduce energy consumption and save public resources.

Each member from across the eight countries will have a presentation slot during the conference and will speak on a topic while sharing advice and tips on how they have reduced energy consumption.

As the UK’s key representative, and the coordinator of the local stakeholder group for the project, the council will present a talk on renewable heat and its potential impact on communities.

Representatives will share advice on planning a project, developing the necessary skills, and managing buildings in the most efficient way.

Cllr John Clare, Durham County Council’s climate change champion, said: “Our involvement in the REBUS project over the last four years has been a great opportunity for us to work with European partners to share how we are reducing carbon emissions in a variety of ways.

“Together we have learned from each other and explored examples of best practice in undertaking actions in public buildings to improve energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions. Being part of this project has influenced the development of our Climate Emergency Response Plan and improved our carbon efficiency as a council and as a county.”

The free virtual event will take place on Tuesday, 10 November, between 8.45am and 12.15pm GMT. Tickets for the free event are available on Eventbrite.
